Is Waxing to Painful? Tired of Shaving? Are you getting Razor Burns and Bumps?

As little as 5 Laser Hair Removal Treatments will leave your skin hair free, silky and smooth!

The StarLux System by Palomar has been heralded as the next generation in laser hair removal. With its patented Intense Pulsed Light Technology, the StarLux has the power and speed to quickly and permanently remove unwanted hair. And at a rate almost 10 times faster than that of traditional laser hair removal devices, the StarLux is a more efficient and cost effective permanent hair removal solution.

While treatment speed is important, potential discomfort is the number one concern of most laser hair removal candidates. The Palomar Starlux helps to mitigate these concerns with its self-cooling application wand.

This revolutionary treatment wand is cool to the touch, helping to prevent any potential discomfort and post-treatment irritation (without any messy pastes, gels, creams, or pre-treatment waxing). Some areas of the body are more sensitive than others, however, most clients report little to no discomfort both during and after treatment.

The StarLux works by targeting the pigment inside the unwanted hair follicle. Pulses of intense light are focused on these unwanted follicles, heating the pigment deep inside the hair and disabling the cell mechanism responsible for growing new hair. Since the Starlux only targets the hair pigment, the surrounding pores and skin structure remain unaffected, leaving the skin smooth and permanently hair free.   And because the Palomar StarLux targets only hair follicle pigments, it is safe and effective for virtually all skin types and hair colors.

Palomar Starlux Hair Removal System

The Palomar Starlux is the Gold Standard of permanent hair removal.

We thoroughly cool the area before and during the procedure to ensure maximum comfort. Although it is not usually needed, we also have numbing creams available for those with very sensitive skin.

We can remove hair from any part of your body. Areas most commonly treated are:

  • Underarms

  • Back

  • Chest

  • Legs

  • Bikini area

  • Upper lip

  • Chin

  • Sideburns

People with light skin and dark hair will see the best results in the fewest number of treatments. Darker skin requires more treatment sessions. Because the light targets darker tissue, darker skin will absorb more energy. We use less energy when treating people with darker skin to prevent damage.

We recommend that you stay out of the sun for a few weeks before and during your treatment period.

Light hair is more difficult to remove. There is currently no technology which will reliably remove grey or blonde hair, but we can remove red and light brown hair effectively. It takes a little longer, but our treatments are effective even on darker skin pigmentations and lighter hair colors.

How does Laser Hair Removal work?

The Palomar Starlux has a unique Smooth Pulse technology which is designed to provide more efficient destruction of hair follicles than your standard IPL or Laser technology. It removes hair by sending out high-energy light pulses of various wavelengths to destroy both the bulb and the bulge of the hair follicle. The remaning heat is dispursed to the surrounding stem cells which are also destroyed, leading to permanent, long lasting hair removal.

How long does the Laser Hair Removal procedure take?

Depending on the handpiece selection, each pulse treats about 2 inches of skin surface area, which can contain up to 100 hair follicles. The amount of time needed to treat a certain area depends on the size of area being treated. Treatments on the back or legs can take up to one hour, while treatments of the underarms and bikini generally take 15 minutes. The upper lip and chin can be done in less than 5 minutes!

Are there any side effects?

With any medical procedure there are always risks and possible side effects. The treated area may become slightly pink or red afterwards. This will go away within a few minutes to a few hours and in some rare cases a few days. The area may change pigment, and in some cases may burn or scab.

Are the results of hair removal permanent?

Everyone will need at least 4 to 7 treatments for effective permanent hair removal. The fabulous thing is that the remaining hair returns lighter and softer. Results vary depending on skin and hair type. Because hair grows at different stages, and IPL or Laser can only target hairs in the Anagen stage of growth, it is almost impossible to guarantee that all hair will be removed. Only 30% of hairs are in the Anagen stage at any one time. However, Second Skin does have a maintenance package available for those customers who need supplementary treatments after they have finished their package of treatments. Maintenance is 50% of the regular price of either a single session or a package.

Who is a candidate for hair removal?

If you are concerned about unwanted hair, you are probably a good candidate for IPL hair removal. The only limitation to this procedure is hair color. Because the IPL is attracted to the pigment in the hair follicle, it is not effective for white or gray hairs – since there is no pigment.

What areas can be treated?

Almost any area of the body can be treated. The most common treatment areas are Back, Bikini, Brazilian, Upper Lip, Lower Lip, Chin, Underarms, Arms and Legs. Please call or visit us if you have any questions regarding a certain area.

Are treatments safe?

Yes, treatments are completely safe. IPLs generate non-ionizing energy that does not result in the mutation of cells. Medical IPL applications have been continuously expanding since the mid 1960s. This increased use of IPLs is due primarily to the inherent safety and ability to selectively target specified tissue without harming surrounding structures. Plus, our Medical Estheticians and Nurse use the latest, most effective and safest equipment. At Second Skin Medspa, we are committed to performing only those treatments that are clinically proven to eliminate unwanted hair. Our Medical Estheticians and Nurse have been specifically trained to offer you the safest process possible.

Which IPL is best for Hair Removal?

At Second Skin Medspa, we currently use Palomar Starlux technology which is FDA and Health Canada approved, and much safer than Laser light technology which can cause severe burns. Palomar technology targets the hair follicle and bulb, leaving the skin intact, whereas Lasers, if not used properly, can cause major burns and injuries. There are a large variety of IPL and Laser machines on the market; however, our Certified Medical Estheticians (CMEs) use the most powerful and safest unit to date – The Palomar Starlux.

Can the same hair grow back?

If the hair follicle was not destroyed completely, there is a chance that the same hair follicle can grow back. If you do not attend your regularly scheduled treatment plan, then the hairs that were treated can grow back. Although, most hair follicles are destroyed during your treatments, new hairs in different areas can grow – making it seem that the same hairs are growing back. Why do new hairs grow? With age and certain medications, new hair growth can occur in areas that there was no hairs before (i.e. nose hairs, ear hair, knuckle hair, etc).

Can my hair grow longer?

This is usually a misconception. After your treatment, the treated, damaged hair follicles will release and start to exit the body. It may seem that your hair is growing longer than before, but this is usually just the hair follicle exiting the body. You can usually use twizzers to remove the hair with no pain as the hair follicle is not attached to the root.
