Visible leg veins are a common problem for aging men and women.
Surgical vein removal can leave scarring at the incision point, put clients at risk for infection and involve lengthy recovery times. Laser leg vein treatment from Palomar offers you an alternative for the clearing of spider veins and reticular veins - with no incision, minimal discomfort and no downtime.
Our patented laser technology treats leg veins with superior comfort while promoting excellent client satisfaction. Our laser leg vein removal uses pulses of laser light at just the right wavelength to constrict the vessels responsible for leg veins, causing the vein to degenerate and visibly disappear. The laser light passes through the epidermis, only affecting blood vessels, so there is no injury to outer skin.
What are spider veins?
Spider veins are similar to varicose veins, but they are smaller. They are often red or blue and are closer to the surface of the skin than varicose veins. They can look like tree branches or spider webs with their short jagged lines. Spider veins can be found on the legs and face. They can cover either a very small or very large area of skin.
What causes varicose veins and spider veins?
The heart pumps blood filled with oxygen and nutrients to the whole body. Arteries carry blood from the heart towards the body parts. Veins carry oxygen-poor blood from the body back to the heart. The squeezing of leg muscles pumps blood back to the heart from the lower body. Veins have valves that act as one-way flaps. These valves prevent the blood from flowing backwards as it moves up the legs. If the one-way valves become weak, blood can leak back into the vein and collect there. This problem is called venous insufficiency. Pooled blood enlarges the vein and it becomes varicose. Spider veins can also be caused by the backup of blood. Hormone changes, inherited factors, and exposure to the sun can also cause spider veins.
How can dilated veins be treated?
In the past surgery and compression bandages were the only options for treating dilated veins. With the development of laser and light technologies, less invasive and very effective techniques have become available.
At Second Skin we use a combination of laser and pulsed light treatment to achieve optimal results for each patient. Palomar Lux1064 is the Nd: YAG laser hand-piece, which is used to treat veins as large as 4 mm thick.
Palomar LuxG hand-piece uses intense pulsed light (IPL) of a targeted spectrum to achieve a similar effect of laser therapy. LuxG is most useful during photofacials for removal of facial vessels.
How does laser vein treatment work?
Laser delivers concentrated light in a specific wavelength of the spectrum. Each wavelength is absorbed by a different target such as pigment, blood, or water. The Palomar Lux1064 hand-piece delivers light pulses in the 1064 nm wavelength, which is ideal for targeting veins.
The light pulses heat the blood within the veins. The temperature of the blood affects the inner lining of the vessel, causing the vein to constrict and gradually fade from the skin.
What are Palomar laser leg vein treatments like?
Your treatment provider will move the Lux1064 hand piece over your skin, following the length of the vein, pulsing it all the while. Each pulse will send a beam of light through your skin. A flashing light, an audible tone, and a mild sensation on the skin will tell you when the hand piece is being pulsed.
Are these treatments safe? Are they painful?
Your provider will go over the risks and benefits of treatment with you. Palomar leg vein treatments are skin-safe and comfortable. The Lux1064 delivers its energy in one smooth, gentle pulse, to protect the skin from a sharp rise in temperature. In addition, a chilled water supply runs through the Lux1064 hand piece, down to its tip. Since the hand piece tip is in contact with the skin during treatment, your skin is continually cooled, so that you feel little heat from the laser pulses.
What should I expect after treatment?
Immediately after treatment, you can expect a mild sunburn-like sensation, possibly accompanied by some minor swelling. This usually lasts 2-24 hours, and can be soothed with cold gel or ice packs.
