LATISSE® solution (bimatoprost ophthalmic solution) 0.03% – is a prescription treatment for hypotrichosis used to grow eyelashes, making them longer, thicker and darker.

Hypotrichosis is another name for having inadequate or not enough eyelashes.

We want long eyelashes too!  We personally use it and are amazed at the actual results. So yes, Latisse really works when used as directed.

In short, think of Latisse® as nourishment for your eyelashes…
The active ingredient in Latisse™ eyelash grower is called bimatoprost. Research suggests that growth of eyelashes occurs by increasing the percent of hairs in, and the duration of, the anagen (or growth) phase of the hair follicle. Bimatoprost can prolong this growth phase, hence you get longer lashes. It also appears to help generate extra lashes, so your lashes get fuller.

While the exact mechanism is unknown, it appears Latisse™ strengthens your lashes and increases the life cycle of each lash. Latisse™ also increases the pigment, or color of the lash. Thus, over the treatment course with Latisse™ eyelash grower, all of your own lashes become fuller, longer, thicker and darker. Naturally, when you stop using the product, your eyelashes will eventually return to their original state.

Your lashes don’t just look better using Latisse, they are better!

Latisse was clinically tested in a pivotal Phase III, multi-center, double-masked, placebo-controlled study to assess its safety and efficacy in which all endpoints (improved eyelash prominence, length, thickness and darkness) were met. Bimatoprost, the active ingredient in Latisse, was first approved in 2001 as a medical product to lower intraocular pressure in people with open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension. Patients treated with bimatoprost for this specific eye condition experienced eyelash growth as a side effect.

The long-term safety of bimatoprost for therapeutic use has been recognized by the medical community and well established based on use in 32 clinical trials involving more than 5,700 glaucoma patients and more than 13 years of clinical trial experience. Given the existing and substantial clinical and post-marketing safety data with bimatoprost solution 0.03%, coupled with the positive results from the Phase III Latisse study, Latisse provides patients a clinically meaningful aesthetic benefit with a favorable safety profile.

Latisse now available at Second Skin Medspa!

Introduced in early 2009, Latisse is a prescription treatment for hypotrichosis of the eye lashes. Hypotrichosis is a loss or reduction of hair that is permanent. Hypotrichosis can occur due to chemotherapy, which is seen when a person loses his or her hair or can sometimes be a congenital disorder, meaning someone is born with it. For one with hypotrichosis of the eyelashes, or a person with natural thinning or lack of full, think eyelashes, treatment with Latisse can bring about permanent longer, thicker and darker eyelashes.

How does it work?

There are 3 phases of hair growth - Anagen, Catagen and Talogen. Latisse is thought to affect the growth stage of eyelashes by increasing the duration of the Anagen phase, while increasing the number of hairs in the growth phase.  Most people begin to see an increase in their lashes after about 3 or 4 weeks. By 16 weeks the lashes will have reached their full length and thickness. Discontinuation of Latisse will result in the gradual return of the lashes to their previous state.

How do I apply Latisse?

Latisse comes in a solution with 60 sterile applicators.  Once per night, you apply the solution to your upper eyelashes.  It is as simple as that!  After 3-4 weeks of mirror watching, you, family and friends will notice that your eyelashes are longer, thicker and fuller.  After 8 weeks of application, Second Skin advises to use the product every other night or every 3rd night.  After 16 weeks, you will see the full effects of Latisse. Second Skin recommends that you come to our office to do an eyelash perm to curl the lashes so that they do not grow too straight and become bothersome.

Are there any side-effects to using Latisse?

Latisse does have some side effects, the most common of which are an itching sensation in the eyes and/or eye redness. These were reported in approximately 4% of patients.

Other less common side effects typically occur on the skin close to where Latisse is applied, or in the eyes. These include eyelid skin darkening, eye irritation, dryness of the eyes, and redness of the eyelids. Eyelid skin darkening is a result of increased melanin in the skin, making your eyelid skin look a little darker close to where the solution is applied to the skin. This is expected to reverse after several weeks to months if you decide to stop using the product.

How do I purchase Latisse?

You cannot purchase Latisse over the counter, and because Latisse is a prescription product, you will need to come in to Second Skin Medspa to complete a short medical consultation with a health professional prior to being able to purchase Latisse.
